EMC Testing
Does your product need to comply with Electromagnetic Compatibility requirements?

Don’t let an EMC lab scare you with intimidating processes and complicated equipment.

It’s easier than you may be led to believe.

Early planning for these requirements will make the difference between success and failure at the testing lab. Don’t take a chance on delaying your time to market.

Design:
Certifigroup EMC Product Development & Design specialists can easily guide you through the maze of requirements from concept through prototyping. Factors for EMC pre-compliance include:

Market identification
Design process and timeline
Identification of Standards
Identification of National & International Requirements
Location and end use of equipment
EMC design effect on Electrical Safety requirements.
Implications for mechanical and environmental safety and requirements

Testing:
In the Testing phase, your Engineer will provide guidance for the test technicians, and coordinate any questions or issues affecting electrical safety and mechanical testing. If you need to select a testing facility, we will make sure the correct choice meets your specific needs and that the facility holds the proper accreditations. If your product has already failed EMC testing, we can help with any re-designs and get your production schedule back on track ASAP.

Our Staff:
Expert assistance will insure your successful journey from the drawing board to the production floor.
Our Sr. Engineering staff is ready to serve you:

Fred Kozak
Fred has more than 20 years of compliance design and testing. He started his career at BNR, Nortel’s Research and Development Company, in 1986 as a student intern. He received the Outstanding Co-op award during his last term for activities in PCB design and materials research. His career continued with corporate awards for EMC design of large systems. In 1998, Fred joined Cisco Systems. He worked on multiple platforms including compliance design of mid range routing and switching, cell site routers and back haul solutions, and lastly encryption routers. Fred has a BSEE from NCSU. He presently has 6 patents with 3 pending.

Gregg Kervill
Gregg is a Member of the IEEE, the UK Institution of Management, and is a NARTE Certificated Product Safety Engineer. He spent more than 15 years in the design of consumer electronics – industrial process control – coal mining - military and space applications. His former clients include Rolls Royce, Thales, HP and Microsoft and his former business partners include GEC, and Technology International.
He has advised governments: Brussels on test equipment requirement for several joining ‘Member’ countries The UK Department of Trade on verifying LVD compliance – he created a template for them to set up Test Laboratories and trained many (LVD) ‘Enforcement Offices’; Hong Kong government by providing product safety training to several Fortune 50 companies; The Northern Irish Government in teaching compliance to small businesses (3 years); State Governor (Mark) Warner’s VALET - export development - program (2 years).
Gregg also worked with NARTE in creating and writing the examination for product safety engineers (6 years); was an IEEE founding (and BoD) member of the Product Safety Engineering Society; and regional Chairman for the UK Institute of Management. He founded and ran ‘GK Consultants Limited – GKCL’ and ‘The eGlobal Education Partnership’ training companies to become competent in CE Marking using the Self Declaration route. He has published more than 100 articles in the technical press (since the 70’s); three internationally selling books; the first and only computer based training for product safety in 1995 and on-line training material in 2001. He was awarded the “HEPTODE AWARD” by NARTE in 2005 and in 2007 joined CertifiGroup where he is further developing cutting-edge training that will revolutionize the compliance process and support a concept that he calls ‘Lean-Design’.

Roger Smith
Roger has been in Product Safety since 1984, where he worked for Underwriters Laboratories in Santa Clara CA. At UL, he was involved with many product categories, responsible for a majority of international travel for Asian customers in appliance, tools and other categories (Makita, Samsung, and other major manufacturers), also an expert in Asian relations. Also evaluated and certified experimental products such as aircraft, automotive equipment, industrial equipment, controls. In 1988, he was transferred to open new UL office in Research Triangle park, NC, hand picked by the Engineering Manager of RTP facility. He quickly achieved rank of Sr. Engineer, then Team Leader, and on to Engineering Group Leader, trained and managed over 30 engineers and staff and achieved significant improvements in their productivity. He was Controlling Engineer for 3 highly active categories and chairman of industry ad-hoc committees to revise Standards, directly responsible for improvements in multiple UL Standards while coordinating file reviews for upgrades in requirements for customers.
Roger assisted NC State University with establishing a senior design course for the EE Department – now a mandatory course with over 100 students per semester.
In the last 15 years, he has become one of the leading world experts in Medical and laboratory equipment, as well as Hazardous location. He has helped hundreds of companies prepare for global markets for North America and Europe. His knowledge of product standards includes: UL/EN/IEC 60601, 61010. 60950, UL 508, 698, 775, 813, 921, 923, 963, 1004, 1017, 1026, 1449, 1564, 1598, 1647, 1740, 1795, 1995, NFPA 30, 33, 52, 79, 86, 99, 101, 496, 497, SEMI S2 series and many others.
